I first shared this Tropicalia Natural Hair Conditioning Treatment Recipe in August 2011 in Simply Beautiful. This recipe always makes me think of holidays when I make it. The smell and taste of coconuts instantly transport me to exotic far-flung destinations. Bananas are packed full of vitamins that strengthen the hair, promote shine, and protect the hair’s natural elasticity which helps prevent breakage and split ends. Coconut oil penetrates deep inside the hair shaft and helps repair breakages and split ends.
Ingredients
1 Organic Banana
3 tbs Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
1 tbs Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
To make this hair mask, simply place the banana and the coconut oil in a bowl and mash them into a pulp until they are well combined. Next, pour the olive oil in and stir in little by little to smooth out the mixture. If you have a blender, this will create the desired texture with less elbow grease! Apply to dry hair, if you have a shower cap put it on as this will intensify the treatment. Leave on for up to an hour and then rinse your hair. Follow up with your regular shampoo to ensure no residue is left. This recipe will really nourish the hair, particularly if your tresses have been out in the sun all day.
oooh this looks lovely! unusual to get a banana smelling product as well. Coconut oil seems to be growing in popularity loads as well at the moment. I use it to cook with as well! x
Yes I love coconut oil, I use it in oh so many fabulous ways!! x
This is absolutely great! I like how you know exactly what you are putting on your hair when you make these kind of masks and I will be definitely be giving it a try!
Let me know how you get on Marthaelle! x
Trying this right now, but without olive oil. I’m poo free & the last time I used olive oil I couldn’t get it out of my hair. My head smells amazing right now 🙂
Great Greta, hope your mane is shiny post rinse! What do you wash your hair with normally if you don’t use poo? I’m thinking to make a rainwater shampoo – will share my findings! xx
I use baking soda & water to wash. I condition with a mixture of apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon juice & water. I was hoping for better results with this conditioning treatment since I use coconut oil in my curl spray. I used a third of what was called for (my hair is short now) & I cant seem to get it to rinse out. It is super shiny tho lol.
Sorry to hear that Greta! My suggestions based on your ingredients above is to apply baking soda to your hair and leave for about five minutes, then rinse with warm water. Then apply apple cider vinegar, massage in well and rinse with cold water. Fingers crossed for you!
Thanks. I’ll let you know what happens.
Baking soda paste helped but I ended up using shampoo. The end result looks good tho. Healthy & shiny.
